“Our opponents left no stone unturned in spreading rumors to divide the voters on caste and religious lines”. They invented stories about the BJP’s stand on beef and reservation and tried to fan communal hatred by pitching one community against another. “We have no doubt that we are going to win with 2/3rd majority in Bihar”, said BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain.
All anti-Modi and anti-BJP voices would get emboldened if this happens and a rejuvenated campaign would be launched against the policies of the Modi Government by trade unions, intellectuals and organizations stacked with anti-BJP forces in the managements.
All eyes are on the exit poll predictions for the new Bihar assembly which will come out on Thursday evening after the fifth and final round of polling is completed. It predicts 90 to 100 seats for NDA and up to 23 for other parties.
NDTV said the Grand Alliance will get 118 seats and the BJP and its allies will manage 117 seats.
The votes are to be counted on Sunday. The grand alliance will manage to bag 83 seats and others will get 5 seats, the exit poll says. It gave the BJP-led alliance 155 seats and the Mahagthbadhan 83. The ITG-Cicero poll, which was put out by the India Today channel, predicted 113-127 seats for the NDA and 111-123 for the “Mahagathbandhan”.
The NDA and the Grand Alliance of JD(U), RJD and the Congress are fighting rigorously and it is well seen in the 4 phases that have gone by.
The ABP Live Nielsen Exit Poll has predicted a strong victory for JDU led Grand Alliance with 130 Seats, while it gave BJP 108 Seats.
Four polls released after voting ended showed a coalition of regional parties would win the largest number of seats in the state.
Even earlier than the exit polls have been telecast, JD-D spokesman T.M. Tyagi informed IANS in Patna that the Grand Alliance was assured of profitable a “stupendous mandate”.
However, during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA comprising BJP, Ramvilas Paswan’s LJP and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP won in 174 assembly segments, while the Lalu-Nitish combine could win only in 51 assembly segments in the face of Modi wave.
The voter enthusiasm was evident on Thursday too, with tens of thousands queuing up at polling booths even before they opened at 7 a.m. A total of 827 candidates were in the fray.
Stock markets slid on Thursday with the Nifty closing below the psychologically crucial 8,000 mark after the US Federal Reserve reiterated the likelihood of a rate hike in December.
