Soon after the new year begins, Girl Scouts in Mississippi will begin taking orders for their famous cookies that have delighted taste buds for decades. A few folks might call that figure a bit high, but us?
The reason for the increase in price of our beloved cookies like Thin Mints and Samoas are due to the Girl Scouts not earning enough profits from their sales.
So what’s with the price hike? With the increase, the council’s troops will now receive an average of 90 cents per box of cookies, up from an average of 62 cents per box.
The Eastern Massachusetts group will be joining at least two other councils, both in California, in raising prices this year. “A price increase is necessary to keep up with the ever-increasing costs of running a nonprofit organization”.
The increase also means the girls won’t have to fumble for change when you hand them a five.

“We periodically look at different bakers, and we were very impressed with ABC Bakers’ customer service and quality of cookies”, said Girl Scouts of Louisiana vice president of marketing Mary Ann Addy. “Without an increase in price, we are unable to cover existing costs or provide for program enhancements, building repairs, or other investments on behalf of our membership”. Still worth it or will you be tightening your purse strings come cookie season?
