Royals offer Alex Gordon one-year, $15.8 million deal

The New York Mets exceeded expectations with their advance to the World Series this season and now hope to emulate their Kansas City conquerors by going one step better next year.

Ned Yost, the Royals’ manager, calls Gordon the ideal ballplayer.

His 1-2 punch at a diving slider dropped in front of Michael Conforto in left-center field, and sent Kansas City into a frenzy.

So what Moore said shortly after a season-ending news conference on Thursday is worth reading into.

I spent the rest of the night watching the game from an auxiliary press box set up near the right-field foul pole and writing live in-game updates. “Business is business. You do the right thing”.

It’s been a season of highs for die-hard Kansas City Royals fan Brian Fragel.

With all of that on his back, Colon stepped into the box for the first time all postseason, with a chance to give Wade Davis a lead and a chance to win the World Series.

Escobar will make $5.25 million next season. In doing so, Gordon is walking away from a guaranteed $12.5 million salary for next season and betting that he can land a long-term deal on the open market. Such a contract would represent a $5.5 million increase from his player option.

While not a consistent threat offensively over the years, Escobar’s defense and work on the basepaths helped him remain a fixture in the Royals batting order.

Seemingly every Royal played his part in this championship run and let me start by saying every award this postseason was rightly earned, but I wanted to take the time to recognize a few contributions even further and hand out a few more awards in the tradition of MLB’s year-long trophies as applied to Kansas City’s postseason run.

“We don’t want to put ourselves in compromising positions”, he said. We know this isn’t going to last.

“A notification on my phone popped up that Gordon’s a free agent now, and I just kind of showed it to him, and we both just kind of got sad all of a sudden”, Rick said. “I’ve learned from that”. It would be foolish to expect that type of fortune again.

Royals reliever Luke Hochevar, drafted No. 1 overall by the team in 2006, pitched two hitless innings for the win.

Rios, 34, signed a one-year, $11 million deal with the Royals last December and hit.255/.287/.353 with four homers and 32 RBIs in 105 games during the regular season. He played only 104 games a year ago, slowed by a wrist injury in the spring and a groin injury in the summer. He is still a very good player, but time takes its toll on all professional athletes.

So who will be the main bidders for Alex Gordon’s services?

Like the fabled phoenix, the New York Mets have been reborn from the ashes of the old teams we are used to seeing in Queens.

Next up, Tuesday’s parade in Kansas City to celebrate the club’s second title, capped with a party at historic Union Station. But to stay here, he would have to take such a smaller contract that Moore and his assistants know they need to make other plans.

His story with the Royals is attractive. Cueto pitched a complete game only giving up one run on two hits.

The Royals may have lacked dominant starting pitching and hitting, but they won with sound fundamentals.

The tour includes a roundtrip flight from Kansas City global airport, three nights’ accommodations at the Radisson Hotel in Chandler, Ariz., motor coach transportation, four meals, tickets for four exhibition games and driver gratuities.
