American Lung Association raising awareness of lung cancer
Patti LaBelle has partnered with the American Lung Association’s Lung Force initiative to help educate people about lung cancer, which kills more women in the USA than any other form of cancer. In support of this month, Guthrie hosts a “Shine A Light On Lung Cancer” event on Thursday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m.at the Sayre Elks Lodge.

Do you think of lung cancer differently than other cancers?
“You don’t (just) get it from smoking, you can get (lung cancer from) second-hand or third-hand smoking”, she explained.
“I’m so happy to be here, but not happy happy because I’ve lost so many family and friends to lung cancer…”, she said as she promoted the new partnership on US breakfast show Today on Wednesday (04Nov15). The short film will be officially debuted during National Women’s Lung Health Week, beginning May 8, 2016.
Guthrie’s event tonight will help raise awareness on lung cancer, as well as offer hope, inspiration, support and remembrance for all those impacted by the disease. “We desperately need more personalized treatment options and early detection methods for the more than 100,000 women who will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015, and 4,262 here in Ohio”.
Currently, only 17 percent of lung cancer cases among women are diagnosed early, according to the Lung Association.
A donation supports the American Lung Association’s investment in lung cancer research and public health promotion, including early detection, clinical trials, biomarker testing, advocating for more federal research funding and the overall mission of the American Lung Association. “Early diagnosis and treatment can save lives, that’s why we’re raising awareness about this disease and screening options”.
Patients will be asked to speak about their journeys throughout their history with lung cancer.
