Arsene Wenger fancies Arsenal title chances

That victory saw the Gunners climb to the top of the table – albeit only until Manchester City regained the top spot after their goalless draw with Manchester United on Sunday – for the first time since February past year.

The Gunners had a huge task in their hands after a 2-0 home win against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League just three days ago.

Having also beat Watford the previous weekend, the French boss says it has been a “perfect week” only overshadowed by the injuries of Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta.

“We knew they played well on the break and we were aware but their goal was a bit lucky because it deflected”.

“We’ll keep our humility and our desire to grow”, Wenger told reporters.

“We lost the first game here at the Emirates and after that no one would have said we would be top tonight”.

“We learn from defeat and we learn from wins – but to learn from wins sometimes is more hard because it is less natural”. We have a great togetherness and we want to achieve big things altogether.

Pundits, who felt Arsenal blew their best chance for the title after failing to sign reinforcements, have been critical of Wenger following his 2-0 loss to West Ham on the opening day of the season.

Arsene Wenger’s biggest call going into the game was to start with Olivier Giroud up front after two goals in two, with Theo Walcott dropping to the bench.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pass beat Stones and found the Chilean but his attempt was blocked by Seamus Coleman.

“It will take probably 48 hours to find out the damage, but it’s not good”, said Martinez.

“Ramiro Funes Mori has played in a Merseyside derby, he has played today and he has had a taste of the League Cup and I think he is getting close to understanding the British game”.

“It is an unfortunate action, not malicious or with intent but when you are looking at an incident as a manager and it happens after the referee has given a free-kick, it is disappointing”. When you remember that we are yet to get a penalty that is quite significant and is the latest string added to our bow, so are the Gunners nearly the complete package now?
