PM Narendra Modi lays foundation stone for 3 Highway projects in Haryana

Pointing out that infrastructure was pivotal to national development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said his government was actively working to strengthen infrastructure, be it road and rail networks or power and water.

The three highway projects are Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway and eight-laning of highway section from Mukarba Chowk (Delhi) to Panipat.

Asking states to create a sound infrastructure in order to ensure that development percolates down to the down-trodden and the poor, Modi cited Korea’s example as to how it achieved economic prosperity through creating a network of highways.

“There is dilemma among common people as to how improving roads could improve their lives”. He said it was a general perception that if one had the money, one could construct roads.

“Korea is a good example and how it has progressed by leaps and bounds”.

“… but rulers of that country at that time, still went ahead and did this and it changed the fate of entire Korea”.

The about 136 km long Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, also known as Western Peripheral Expressway, project will provide high-speed link to northern Haryana with its southern districts like Gurgaon, Faridabad and Palwal, he said.

Modi said projects worth ‘32,000 crore have been sanctioned for the state.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and all state ministers are expected to be present at the event.

He then informed people about the Bharat Mala project. He also stressed on rail-road connectivity at the same time.

“In the past, conflicts between roads and railways have delayed several important projects. Now, these two departments will work under a mutual understanding policy for the completion of the Setu Bhandhan projects”, Modi said.

During the 20-minute tenure of his speech, he only talked about development projects that would benefit the country.

Reiterating his vision Modi said that he plans to connect 18000 unconnected villages with power supply within 1000 days and ensured 24×7 power supply to all parts of India by 2022.
