When is the Daylight Saving Time change?

If you have to be ready at a specific time on Sunday, you should go ahead and manually turn back your iPhone clock before you go to sleep on Saturday night October 31st. Don’t worry, you’ll probably still be awake trying wrangle sugar-fueled witches, superheroes, and snow queens into bed at that hour.

Electricians from facilities management are in charge of the Old Main clock tower, which features an analog clock face. Risk of heart attack was also higher on the first weekday following the transition out of daylight saving time in the fall.

“I’ve literally never thought about the clocks on campus”, said junior Carlie Krueger, an agricultural communication major.

Wake up and smell the time change!

“I personally prefer “springing forward” over ‘falling back, ‘” Krueger said. A few states do not observe the biannual time change: both Hawaii and Arizona have opted out. The time change will result in more daylight in the mornings but earlier sunsets.

The original impetus for daylight saving time was to save on energy costs because those costs are lower during daylight hours. These savings come in the summer months of DST, not the Standard Time months we are about to enter.

Proponents of daylight saving time claim the time change saves energy and promotes outdoor activity in the evening during the summer, among other benefits.

Love it or hate it, this weekend is when we steal an hour of daylight from the evenings and add it to the mornings. After all, you get more daylight and you save more money on lighting bills. Daylight saving time is now used in over 70 countries worldwide, although the beginning and end dates vary from country to country.

A 2014 Rasmussen poll found that a declining percentage of adults in the United States – 33% – think Daylight Saving Time is “worth the hassle”. People also often cite schoolkids waiting for buses in the dark as an argument against yearlong daylight time.

The shift moves one hour of daylight to the morning from the evening.

You don’t need to change the time or settings if your iPhone is configured to Set Automatically.

Farmers wouldn’t be happy to have year-round daylight savings time, but it looks like that’s not the case.

Enjoy an extra hour of sleep Sunday by remembering to turn your clock back an hour before you go to bed. Daylight Savings Time officially ends on Nov. 1 meaning time moves backward so to speak at 2 a.m. Graphic courtesy
