Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said no Israelis were harmed in the attempted attack at the Gilboa crossing, the latest in a series of Palestinian attacks that began in mid-September and were accompanied by widespread unrest, including clashes between Palestinian stone-throwers and Israeli troops.

One of the alleged attackers, a 13-year-old Palestinian, appeared in court yesterday where he was charged with attempted murder for a knife attack against two Israeli schoolboys.

Jerusalem saw its first knife attack in two weeks on Friday when a 23-year-old Palestinian stabbed and lightly wounded an American tourist before being shot dead, police said.

Amnesty global says Irsheid is one of several cases it has investigated in which Palestinians were deliberately shot dead by Israeli forces when they posed no imminent threat to life.

On Friday the Palestinians also urged the worldwide Criminal Court to accelerate its probe into accusations of “Israeli war crimes”, handing over a new 52-page dossier alleging summary killings and collective punishment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately clear. In this context, the Prosecutor stated that her Office will also examine whether any of the newly reported incidents of violence constitute crimes falling within the jurisdiction of the ICC, and for the same goal, will continue to record any new instances of violence or incitement to violence that may occur in the future.

The Palestinian was shot and killed at a checkpoint between the West Bank and Israel when he tried to stab a border guard, police said. At Israelis deaths have been caused by stabbing or shooting incidents.

Another Israeli Arab – Palestinians who became citizens of Israel after the Jewish state was formed in 1948 – was found to have staged an attack bid in which she was shot and wounded in a suicide attempt.

The Palestinians were injured by Israeli troops’ gunfire during the clashes that broke out in the West Bank cities of Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem and Nablus, and on the borderline area between eastern, northern and southern Gaza Strip and Israel.

The military barred Palestinians between the ages of 15 and 25 from entering a major Hebron shrine that is revered by both Muslims and Jews, said senior Muslim cleric Munther Abu Felat. He said the age restrictions were enforced only partially.

Daoud Zatari told local Arabic radio on Friday that Israel agreed to return the bodies only after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas – who has blamed Israel for the recent violence – pursued the issue in global fora, requesting the bodies be returned to their families for proper burial.

“In the space of less than a month, attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians in Hebron have escalated from what was already an unacceptably high level”, said Philip Luther, Director for the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Amnesty worldwide. “It is a violation of global humanitarian law to prevent medics from doing work and furthermore preventing the injured from getting medical care”. But with increased organization from Jewish groups that coordinate tours of the faithful, the number of Jewish visitors has catapulted to more than 10,000 per year.
