Coutinho is a big-game player – Skrtel

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp praised Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilian struck on either side of halftime against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to hand the German the first Premier League win of his career.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is understood to be preparing a mega-money pay-off for Jose Mourinho, who is on the brink of losing his job.

Coutinho ended a 710 minute goal drought in the Premier League with a two-goal display on Saturday, and expressed his happiness.

Jurgen Klopp insists he is more keen to develop his current Liverpool players than buy new ones, adding: “If you have a problem with your wife, you don’t want to change every day”.

The three points saw Liverpool move into seventh place on the log standings, with 17 points from 11 games so far this season.

Klopp, who himself endured a hard period at Borussia Dortmund last season only to be backed by the club’s board, admitted he was sympathetic to Mourinho’s plight, and backed him to turn the situation around. “We didn’t start well, we knew that”. You just work and work and get better’.

All Arsenal’s goals came after the break as they made it five league wins in succession – Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Joel Campbell all on target.

“A little bit of luck, of course, but I feel it was deserved”.

Oscar said: “It is very disappointing because we played so well in the first half but, at the end of it, Coutinho scored”.

Mourinho refused to offer comment on any issue surrounding the game or his Chelsea future when speaking to television reporters after the match, but appeared to point the finger at Mark Clattenburg and was keen to take the blame away from his players. “The good thing was no one in the club was in doubt about my position”.

But when asked if he thought he had presided over the last game of his second stint at Chelsea, he replied: “No, I don’t”.

“It’s not just the defeat but the manner of it. They were absolutely outplayed”, he added on BBC radio.
