A teenager who helped to ruin Christmas for millions of children by shutting down the PlayStation and Xbox networks has been convicted of 50,700 offences.

He was given a two-year suspended sentenced by a court in Finland – where he has not been named by local media due because he is a minor – and ordered to fight cybercrime as part of his rehabilitation.
Lizard Squad is an infamous hacking group whose attacks increased greatly over the last couple of years.

Lizard Squad noted during our interview that they could take down NASDAQ if they wanted to damage the economy, but stated that it was not their goal; they jokingly refer to themselves as terrorists, but do not feel they are on that level of notorious mischief. The two groups spent the month in virtual combat through Doxxing, hacking each other’s websites and Twitter accounts, and even swatting each other. Lizard Squad had claimed responsibility for the outages.
Little was known about those behind Lizard Squad, beyond the tweets it sent out and varying reports about the ages and ethnicities of its members.
The Lizard Squad described their motivation as “chaos is entertainment”.

The Daily Dot spoke to a victim of Kivimaki’s online harrassment, who said he was “absolutely disgusted by the ruling”. Strater claims Kivimaki had been harassing his family for three years by stealing their identities and messing with their finances. “He’s harmed American targets and the Federal Bureau of Investigation should have stepped in by now”, Strater added.
