On Saturday night, the social media was abuzz with people from San Diego to San Francisco posting videos and photos of an unusually bright light in the skies.

The Taurids are well known in the astronomy community for producing fireballs, an occurrence that is not common for the typical meteor shower.

The Navy fired an unarmed missile from a submarine creating the bright light that streaked across the state and was visible as far away as Nevada and Arizona.

The mystery of a odd light streaking across the US Pacific coast has been solved – and no, it wasn’t aliens or even a meteor shower.

The new moon will mean that the sky will be darker, making the Taurids appear even brighter as they glide across the night sky.

The Taurid showers can be seen from almost anywhere when you gaze at the night sky.

“Every year, the Earth passes through a stream left by Comet Encke, producing the Taurid Meteor Shower“, AccuWeather Meteorologist Dave Samuhel said.
