Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign ex-AC Milan star Alexandre Pato in a £14.2million transfer.

Speculation of a return to Europe has been rife, with Talksport accrediting Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur with a strong interest during the summer.

Pato’s parent club is Brazilian team Corinthians, but he has been on loan to Sao Paolo since February 2014.

Tuttomercatoweb.com reported on Saturday that the former AC Milan forward had lined up a move to Anfield in the January window, while Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade had been quoted in other publications as saying “Liverpool await” the player.

Trying to find the source of these kinds of stories is the internet equivalent of a Penrose staircase that keeps repeating itself, but it appears that they originated on the website of Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla. Pedulla suggesting that an agreement in principle has been in place between the two clubs worth €20m.

“Pato had long expressed a desire to return to Europe”, De Andrade revealed, according to one report.

Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of bringing in Alexandre Pato. “But now I expect Liverpool to complete the deal, though it is missing a few details at this point”. He mainly operates as a left-sided winger who is capable of playing in the #9 role.
