Mauricio Pochettino’s team beat Aston Villa on Monday then hosted Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday, leaving them with little recovery time before facing Arsenal.

Arsenal have injury concerns and were heavily beaten by Bayern Munich in midweek.

With a bunch of first team players out of the squad, Wenger admits he is nervous about releasing a few of his players for worldwide duty after the Tottenham game, particularly Koscielny.

Pires won five trophies in a six-year spell with the North London club, which includes two Premier League titles.

Dier says he can complete a “dream week” if he follows his call-up with a win over North London rivals Arsenal today.

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has reassured the club fans that the team still has a chance of qualifying to the knockout stage of Champions League. After a diabolical start to the Champions League group Arsenal constructed a home win over Bayern, which may yet be crucial going into the last tie at Olympiakos.

Wenger added: ‘How good can he be, I don’t know.

“This year I feel fit”. At the moment, things are going really well. Finally, they have plenty of goal scoring options with Lamela and Kane finding the back of the net regularly. The 22-year-old was on the books at Arsenal as a youngster but was released, and subsequently moved to Tottenham when he was 11.

“I think (former Manchester United goalkeeper) Edwin van der Sar was close to 40 and still was very good”. I don’t know who you could compare him with but I think he can be a top player.

“The defence has played a lot of games (together) from the beginning of the season”, Pochettino said.

“He gives leadership because he is a leader on the pitch, he talks, he is brilliant intellectually, his analysis capacity is very strong, he is highly focused”.

They are already without Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – injured in the 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last week – along with Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky.
