Venus Williams clinches the 2015 WTA Elite Trophy by defeating Karolina Pliskova in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6, and thus return to the top 10 of the women’s world rankings on November 8, 2015.

Williams raced out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set but the third-seeded Pliskova fought back to 4-all before Williams took the first set.

A determined Pliskova won the next three games to level scores but the American would not be denied.

But like she’s done so many times on the biggest stages all around the world, the No.1-seeded Williams lifted her game one last time to finally close out the No.3-seeded Pliskova, rifling back-to-back forehand winners – including a huge passing shot on match point – to finish her off, 7-5, 7-6(6).

Andy Murray progressed through to his 16th Masters 1000 final and his first in Paris after seeing off David Ferrer 6-4 6-3 with a consummate display of high-quality tennis and will now face old foe Novak Djokovic.

In an interview afterwards, Williams said she feels like Asia was home after winning in Zhuhai having spent seven weeks in Asia. All the players felt so welcome here and we appreciated all of the enthusiasm.

“Today wasn’t an easy match”.

“It was such a insane match today”, Svitolina said.

“Also congratulations to Karolina. It was a marathon match and really tough obviously, but I was really happy with how I played”.
