Giant sinkhole swallows cars in IHOP parking lot

A huge sinkhole opened in the parking lot of the pancake place – swallowing up more than a dozen cars in the process.

An enormous sinkhole swallowed at least 14 vehicles in an global House of Pancakes parking lot in Meridian, Mississippi, Saturday night – just a week after the establishment opened for business, NBC News reported.

“When we arrived on scene, 14 to 15 vehicles that we could see had fallen roughly 30 feet into the ground”.

The sinkhole also ruptured a water line, leaving surrounding businesses without running water.

The sink hole was roughly 50 feet wide and almost 600 feet long, according to authorities. Enlarge WLBT Authorities are still investigating, but there were no reports of injuries.

The IHOP opened earlier this week.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the sinkhole, but the area has been hit with nearly 10 inches of rain in two weeks, WTOK reports. Cook says that investigation in the matter won’t start until Sunday, as the main concern right now is to continuously rope off the area to keep everyone away.
