Rex Ryan confirms IK Enemkpali to be captain vs. Jets

The Bills coach will continue his trend of using the team captain as a way to make fun of his opponent.

When the AFC East rivals take the field, Bills head coach Rex Ryan will face the Jets for the first time since being fired by the organization in December of 2014.

“I’ll get ripped, whatever”, Ryan said, via Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News. Ryan was later asked if he had thought about making himself a team captain.

The Bills are coming off a huge 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins at the Ralph Wilson Stadium last Sunday following a bye week, as per the Miami Herald.

After being released August 11 by the Jets and claimed by the Bills off waivers the next day, Enemkpali served a four-game suspension to start the regular season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy during his locker room altercation with Smith.

But that won’t stop Ryan from trotting out Enemkpali for the coin toss any more than it prevented the coach from sending out the entire offensive line in Week 7, when the Bills faced the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But Enemkpali’s role might be more than a symbolic one on Sunday.

“See, there’s another one”, Ryan said.

While Ryan will likely play the move off publicly, there’s no question it comes precisely to needle his opposition. He’s backing up two great players with Mario (Williams) and (Jerry) Hughes but we were able to put him in a package last week that got him in the game a little and we’ll see about him doing it. But I like him.

“I think he’s a good player”, Ryan said.
