As Russian warplanes continue to attack targets in Syria, the apparent decisiveness of Moscow’s actions, at least in the view of a few observers, has obscured an important reality: the poor readiness of Russia’s accident-prone military, which could increase the risk of an error with significant political or military consequences.

“An airstrike by a Su-24M bomber destroyed a hangar with four tanks and one APC inside”, the Defense Ministry spokesman said.

In Idlib, the Russian military jets leveled a major command center of Jabhat al-Nusra, which coordinated the terrorists’ actions in both Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

Idlib province fell from government control earlier this year and is held largely by the Army of Conquest rebel alliance that includes Al-Qaeda affiliate the Nusra Front.

After the drones carried out reconnaissance, the Su-24 plane struck the facility with a guided KAb-500 bomb, he added.

Warplanes have also destroyed a munitions warehouse of the Islamic State that contained makeshift unguided missiles the terrorists had been using to bombard the residential areas of the Syrian capital Damascus.

“In the area of Mont Mgar, Damascus Province, the Islamic State’s warehouse of unguided missiles was destroyed”, Konashenkov said.

“The intensity of our air group’s sorties has been below the normal level in Syria in the past few days. It was used to coordinate illegal armed groups acting in Idlib and Aleppo”, he said.

So far, the offensives have registered only modest advances, though the Russian strikes have reportedly boosted morale among government troops.

Moscow has said that its aircraft has targeted the Islamic State group and other terrorist organizations, but Washington and its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies have criticised Russian Federation for targeting moderate rebel groups fighting Syrian President Bashar Assad.
