Johnathan Hankins injury news a huge bow to banged-up Giants defense

New York Giants defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins suffered a torn pectoral on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the 2015 season.

“He will definitely be missed”, Coughlin said.

This injury is effectively season ending for Hankins, as Will Beatty suffered a torn pectoral in the spring lifting weights and has not returned. He’s the one that forced the first fumble, recovered by Jasper Brinkley.

Hankins is arguably the Giants’ best remaining defensive player.

He had been the team’s most dependable player at defensive tackle, but the reintroduction of Jason Pierre-Paul to the defensive line should at least give the Giants options for replacing him on their roster.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin confirmed the news on Hankins, per the New York Post’s Paul Schwartz.

With Hankins out, either Cullen Jenkins or Jay Bromley will slide into his starting position alongside tackle Markus Kuhn. He is a guy who loves to play and loves to compete.

Coughlin did not have a timetable for Hankins’ return.

After placing defensive captain and middle linebacker Jon Beason on injured reserve earlier this week, the Giants may have to do the same thing with defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.
