One Killed in Police Shooting on Spartanburg, SC, College Campus

The SC Law Enforcement Division has confirmed to station WYFF that one person is dead after a shooting involving a campus police officer at a college campus Monday night.

The shooting reportedly happened near the campus around 8:30 p.m. Check back here for more. The officer encountered two people in a vehicle and attempted to detain them.

Both suspects ran off, but one was quickly captured, according to deputies.

It’s unclear if anyone was injured in the alleged shooting, though local media reports the coroner is on the scene. According to SLED, the officer says he was hit by their vehicle before firing his weapon.

Students at the two-year private liberal arts college were told to go to their dorm rooms until they were given the all clear. The suspects tried to flee from the scene in the vehicle and struck the officer. The college tweeted late Monday night that classes would take place Tuesday morning as scheduled.
