Genesis G90: The Replacement For The Hyundai Equus Teased

The forthcoming models will conform to the design theme put forth by the G90 which Hyundai described as “athletic elegance”.

The range-topping G90 saloon, which will be called the EQ900 in Korea, will offer a high level of technology, according to the company, and is the first of several models to be launched under the newly standalone Genesis badge.

The drawings show how the rear-wheel drive G90’s design language emphasises the car’s presence, its big, upright grille seemingly challenging the air molecules to get out of its way, while sleek, intricate headlight clusters add a futuristic sparkle and a body-length character line makes the most of the long, low profile.

The current Hyundai Genesis Sedan will be renamed G80.

“As the Genesis brand’s flagship model, G90 is a blueprint for change and innovation that will distinguish the Genesis brand”. It showcases the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design language with a distinguishing front end and Genesis emblem in the middle.

Hyundai hinted at the looks in August, when it unveiled the Vision G luxury concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Woong-Chul Yang, head of Hyundai’s R&D centre and vice-chairman of Hyundai Motor, said: “The Genesis models will provide technological innovation, excellent driving performance and luxury to customers”.

Hyundai told AM it was too early to say if the franchise will launch in the United Kingdom, but it will first launch in South Korea and will likely be available in U.S. markets.

Genesis’ lineup will span three sedans.

It seems Hyundai is moving pretty fast announcing details on their upcoming Genesis luxury brand. Also in the works: a smaller G70 sedan, a coupe and a midsize crossover and larger SUV.

The G90 is pitched as the flagship within the Genesis sub-brand, sitting above the Genesis sedan sold in Australia.
