Providing an atmosphere that’s helpful, structured and provides additional programs is one way universities and colleges can support military veterans attending classes.

The survey-based Best for Vets: Colleges requires schools to meticulously document a tremendous array of services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to military and veteran students and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus.

In addition to the Military Times recognition, for the seventh consecutive year, Western IL has been designated as a “Military Friendly School” by GI Jobs Magazine and is featured in the 2016 “Guide to Military Friendly Schools”. CSU, the highest-ranked Colorado school, did not make the Military Times list of 86 schools in 2014. “Our student veterans lead the region with veteran graduation rates at over 96 percent”.

In 2015, UCCS was also recognized by Military Times.

“It is an honor to be recognized by these organizations for our commitment to making our nation’s veterans, their dependents and active duty military vitally important members of the Niagara family”, stated Robert Healy, Niagara University’s veterans services coordinator.

The Adult Learner and Veteran Services, Veteran Educational Benefits Office, New Start for Student Veterans Program in the College of Health and Human Sciences and many other support programs on campus also participated, helping create a more user-friendly process for veterans to apply and gain acceptance to CSU, and help them succeed once they arrive on campus.

On Tuesday, November 17 at 3:30 p.m., a Veterans and Military Appreciation Event will be held in Wilson Hall Savignano Auditoriums A and B.
