At Sunshine Summit, Marco Rubio Looks to Profit Off Jeb Bush’s Stumbles
The announcement comes as Rubio is under greater scrutiny for his personal use of the American Express charge card, which he said was secured under his personal credit in conjunction with the state’s Republican Party.

Trump told reporters at a news conference Tuesday that Rubio lives beyond his means and “is a disaster with his credit cards”.
Spurred by a strong debate performance, Rubio surged to No. 3 in a couple of New Hampshire polls released this week: the Monmouth University Poll and the WBUR Poll. Rubio, though, is about to find out if they still will now that he’s a GOP favorite for president.
Rubio shrugged off the attack. “If I’m Rubio, I’m looking for a super PAC donor to step forward and say I got your back”, Hammond said.
“Rubio was one of about a half-dozen lawmakers given RPOF cards during years when the party was flush with cash”.
For his part, Bush is likely to continue to highlight Rubio’s relative lack of political experience as compared with his record as a two-term Florida governor. Marco Rubio released on Saturday more of his credit card statements, in an apparent attempt to curtail continued questions and criticism about his personal finances. Rubio, visiting family in the area, paid $1,745 for hotel and auto rental fees incurred after the business portion of his trip ended, his campaign said. “In hindsight, I wish that none of them had ever been charged”, Mr. Rubio wrote in “An American Son”.
Those statements also happen to be the ones that Rubio has not yet made public, though he has been pressed repeatedly to do so, and has promised to release them soon.
Caputo makes clear that Rubio’s record-keeping was sloppy, something Rubio has acknowledged.
“It wasn’t a credit card, it was a charge card”.
Rubio, 44, said that if he could go back in time and change the way he handled the charge card, he would not have made any personal purchases with it to avoid all the “confusion it’s created in the minds of a few”. In fact, among the most vigorous defenders of Rubio on credit cards have been Bush supporters.
The controversy surrounding Rubio’s finances first emerged when he was running for the US Senate in 2010, when his then opponent Charlie Crist leaked certain expenditures to the press.

The senator has admitted that he used the American Express card for both personal and business expenses but insisted that he paid for the personal charges himself, and that the Florida GOP covered only business-related political costs, CNN noted. If you’re late with a payment on a card with a 0% introductory April, your issuer might cancel your promotional rate and start charging you regular interest. But their feelings, like those of many Florida Republicans, are complicated. In the days since the debate, his rivals have begun to hammer Rubio on the issue-and it’s no surprise who’s leading the charge. Likewise in 2010, the Tampa Bay Times discovered that Rubio “double-billed the Republican Party of Florida and state taxpayers for eight flights while he was House Speaker”. “But he also used the card for expenses large and small that appeared to be more personal, including $10,000 for 20 rooms at a luxury plantation resort”.
