Blackburn Rovers FC in talks with Slavisa Jokanović to replace Gary Bowyer

Championship side Blackburn Rovers have released a statement to confirm that manager Gary Bowyer has been relieved of his duties at the club following a disappointing start to the season.

The Scotsman was sacked by Aston Villa in February and is being tipped to return to a division where he’s experienced previous success with Norwich City, after Rovers sacked Gary Bowyer on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old had two spells as caretaker manager while reserve-team boss at Ewood Park, before being appointed full-time in May 2013.

Bowyer, 44, was axed after two-and-a-half years in charge because he won just three Championship games this season.

The Indians feel promotion is still a realistic target, even though Blackburn are 10 places off the play-offs and operating under a transfer embargo.

Venky’s reportedly believe that promotion is still a realistic target for Blackburn this season, despite the club’s indifferent start to their Championship campaign.

Bowyer’s assistant Terry McPhillips, and coaches Craig Short, John Keeley and Tony Grant have vacated their roles with immediate effect.

The 46-year-old Scotsman has also been linked with vacant positons at Fulham and QPR but is now 18/1 and 20/1 for the respective posts.
