A few people have taken to social media to express their dismay over a holiday sweater being sold at Target.

Target began selling a red sweater that says “OCD Obsessive Christmas Disorder” and a firestorm of social media criticism erupted across the country, including CT.

People also came to Target’s defense.

In anticipation of packed stores and long lines, the chain is hiring an additional 70,000 employees to manage the holiday rush.

Antoinette D’Orazio, a psychotherapist who specializes in treating the disorder, told TODAY.com OCD affects a few 2.2 million American adults, and almost 27 percent sufferers attempt suicide.

Target is marketing one of this season’s Christmas sweaters as “ugly” and a few customers agree-but perhaps not for the reason the retail giant had hoped.

Kate Gannon tweeted a photo of the sweater and said, “OCD is a serious mental illness that shouldn’t be mocked”.

Still, Target is sticking by the shirts and has no plans to remove them.
