The second division side made the announcement at 11:11 a.m. on November 11, a nod to the legendary Miura’s squad number.

The striker extended his record as the oldest scorer in Japanese football in June when he notched the victor in a second division match four months after his 48th birthday.

After penning the deal which sees him continue in his 31st year of his professional career, Miura – nicknamed King Kazu – told www.japantimes.co.jp: “I’m thankful to the club staff and supporters who always offer me support”.

Miura has three goals to his name this season in 16 appearances but is now sidelined with a right leg injury sustained in mid-October.

He began his professional career in Brazil, playing for the likes of Palmeiras, Coritiba and Santos, before returning to Japan with Verdy Kawasaki in 1990. Miura had a loan spell with Genoa in Italian Serie A in the 1994-95 season and another stint with Dinamo Zagreb in 1999.

He was particularly prolific in guiding Japan to the 1998 World Cup, scoring 14 goals in qualifying, and last played for the national side in 2000.
