You can now try Firefox OS 2.5 on your Android smartphone

The Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview is essentially a launcher than you can install with a simple APK. We’re referring to Android users, which will now have the option to try out Firefox OS without having to buy another handset. From Do Not Track to Private Browsing with Tracking Protection, Firefox OS is designed keep you in control of your browsing activity.

This is reflected by the new tools added to the DE version, which are all meant to make building and debugging websites much easier, supporting the latest additions to Web standards and all the coding best practices. That said, there’s still a bit of work left to do before this preview app is likely to win many people over to Firefox OS.

Mozilla has released Firefox OS 2.5, and among other changes, the new version of the OS supports add-ons that can change the behavior of individual apps, multiple apps, or the entire operating system.

Here is the complete list: Alcatel OneTouch Fire, Geeksphone Peak, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Motorola Moto G, Sony Xperia Mini, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3C, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia E3 and ZTE Open. There are a few little slowdowns in the UI, particularly with the animations, and the back button doesn’t seem to do anything, but it’s quite stable for software labelled as a developer preview.
