It has today been reported that there is potential Adele could withhold her new album “25” from Spotify and it all falls down to one of Spotify’s core principles: Its free tier.

So far, Spotify has refused to back down and has yet to hear if the new Adele album will be offered on its streaming platform at all according to a source.

Potentially bad news, Spotify users: If you want to listen to Adele’s upcoming album, 25, you may have to pay.

Adele reportedly tried a similar tactic before her super-successful 2011 album 21 was released – pressuring Spotify to limit it to paid subscribers.

Spotify is the king of music streaming and has managed to fend off competition from the likes of Apple Music and TIDAL over the past 12 months.

The streaming service has lost out on some of the most popular releases in the past few years, such as Beyoncé’s eponymous album in 2013 and Taylor Swift’s “1989” in 2014.

As of right now, no other streaming service, such as Apple Music or Google Play Music, has made a deal with Adele and her team for the new album.

However, she is still refusing to succumb to the lavish, exclusive and contrived world of celebrity. It’s possible Spotify that may have to worry as 25 is going to be a BIG album to miss out on if reports are indeed true.

Spotify denies that Adele has rejected them though.

But there is one thing that Adele did accept. What is it, we wonder?
