Wawrinka beats Goffin to stay on course for rare double
French Open champion Wawrinka then saw himself 5-3 down in the fifth set and looked on course for a last-eight exit, before fighting back to draw level.

Stan Wawrinka reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals for a second consecutive year by beating David Goffin.
Gasquet, who reached the Wimbledon semi finals in 2007, evenutally prevailed in five sets taking the final set 11-9.
One of 13 aces from Wawrinka brought up a set point in the tie-break for the Swiss, before he sealed a two-set lead with a trademark backhand that fizzed down the line out of Goffin’s reach. However, Wawrinka had 41 unforced errors in his last match, a number that must improve moving forward.
Frenchman Gasquet, the 21st seed, overcame Australian Nick Kyrgios in four sets earlier on Monday.

After the match, Gasquet discussed his upcoming semifinal match with Djokovic “He’ll be the favourite, everyone knows that”, says Gasquet, sweat still dripping. Gasquet is playing very clean tennis this tournament and looks to be in as great of form as we’ve seen in years. Djokovic has won the Wimbledon title twice in his illustrious career (2011 and 2014). This is Gasquet’s first quarterfinal appearance in the Wimbledon since 2007. The two have competed against each other 23 times previously, with Federer winning 12 of those matches. Wawrinka remains among the few players in the tournament to have not dropped a set so far and is looking good to make his way into the finals of yet another major tournament, following his triumph in the French Open. This will be the first time these two play on grass. I enjoy what I’m doing and I’m lucky to play tennis. However, Wawrinka has been a wrecking ball in grand slams since last season and is way too hard to bet against.
