Elizabeth, NJ, Blast Injures, Traps Several People

Duane Bourne, a spokesman with Elizabethtown Gas, said a preliminary probe found no indication that gas caused the blast.

NBC reported that one person had been killed in the blast and seven people had been injured.

The explosion happened around 8:15 a.m. on the second floor after residents felt a rumble according the station.

Officials say one person is dead and two others have been severely burned in a house explosion in northern New Jersey.

The house and a neighboring dwelling sustained substantial damage.

– A house exploded in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Wednesday damaging two nearby homes.

The 2.5-story house is collapsed and an apartment building and house adjacent to it were damaged.

People on surrounding streets reported hearing the explosion on Wednesday morning.

Images from the scene show several people in stretchers with apparent wounds and burns.

Half a dozen ambulances and firefighters from Elizabeth, Union, Springfield and Scotch Plains remained at the scene.
