Spartanburg Methodist College on lockdown after cop shooting on SC

The dead man’s name has not yet been released. The lockdown was still in effect as of midnight EST Tuesday. The number of shots fired and the direction in which they were fired has not been determined, Lt. Kevin Bobo of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said. Simmons reportedly was involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program.

Th shooting is the 42nd officer-involved shooting in the state in 2015, SLED said.

The officer wasn’t seriously injured.

Spartanburg Methodist police department received body camera equipment a few days ago but they were not yet in use, Wright said.

Chandler had been a Limestone student but was suspended for academic reasons in May, Wyatt said. He was an attendee of nearby Limestone College in Gaffney.
