Ross suffers ligament injury to left thumb

He’s out indefinitely and the Raptors will update his status when they know more.

Toronto Raptors swingman Terrence Ross is nursing a sprained left thumb, according to Raptors Media Relations on Twitter. There is no timetable for his return.

Prior to hurting his thumb, Ross had played four obscenely poor games in a row.

“I saw it with my own eyes right in front of me, but again, it’s a tough game to officiate”, said Casey, who hollered at the officials, arms raised in fury, when the incident happened.

Ross continued saying, “Just found out today…” Ross, wearing a purple brace on his left thumb, said he could be back as quickly as two weeks. “You gotta watch it, it takes time to heal”.

It may be early but Ross is nowhere near living up to his contract extension. It’s now time for head coach Dwane Casey to get a little creative and, mostly, cross his fingers for a speedy recovery for his two injured wings. “I mean, gotta stay active, keep doing what I normally do, work out, stay in shape, stay ready”.

As poorly as Ross has started the season, the injury threatens to leave the Raptors searching for answers in the rotation.

After Toronto raced out to a franchise-record five straight wins to start the season, the Raptors promptly dropped two games in Florida, including Sunday’s 96-76 rout by the Heat on Sunday in Miami. Ross struggled to find the rhythm though.

The Raptors missed his solid perimeter defense on Tuesday as they allowed the Knicks to shoot a stunning 47.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Ross is averaging 6.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 17.4 minutes over seven games, shooting 36.4 percent from the floor and 28 percent from long-range.

The team will look to bounce back as they fly to Philadelphia to play the Sixers on Wednesday.
