The shooting occurred near the intersection of Gundry Avenue and 14th Street around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Long Beach Police Department Lt. Mark Coble said.
Responding officers found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was initially transported to the hospital in critical condition, but later died of his injuries, Coble said.
Police set up a perimeter and called in a SWAT team to search several square blocks.
Police and SWAT were conducting an area search for the suspected shooter between 10th and 11th streets, and Walnut and Mahanna avenues. Authorities have yet to identify the victim.
During the initial investigation, the officers located a possible suspect, chasing him on foot, while a perimeter was established in an attempt to contain the suspect.
“Whoever you are, we all make mistakes – but please just turn yourself in”. “Please, this was my baby, I have only two kids”.
