Mr Fleetwood got his wish to see the new film on Thursday (local time) last week, with his wife announcing it on Facebook and Time reporting that a Disney spokesperson had confirmed the special screening.

The Force Awakens director opened up to the mag about the highly anticipated movie. “He will always be my idol and my hero”, she wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

In 2012, Fleetwood was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called spindle cell carcinoma.

Have you seen everything you want to see of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, or are you hungry for more? The latest challenge comes from Entertainment Weekly, which revealed on November 11 that this week’s issue has 32 pages of Force Awakens coverage and potential scoops, complete with four collectors edition covers. This reimagined Jedi Training experience will take younglings to the secret site of an ancient Jedi temple where they will face Darth Vader along with the Seventh Sister – a new villain from the Disney XD series “Star Wars Rebels”. The new The Force Awakens footage will be hosted by the casts of ABC’s Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and How to Get Away with Murder, as part of the network’s TGIT. “The end is getting close for him”.

A day later, the #forceforDaniel hashtag was born… and quickly went viral.

Disney granted Daniel his last wish, much to the support of J.J. Abrams, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and John Boyega.

Not surprisingly, the outpouring of sympathy and celebration of Daniel’s wish fulfilled is coming in from far and wide.

Fleetwood was also visited by the 501st Legion’s Star Garrison, a volunteer worldwide Star Wars fanclub, who presented the avid Star Wars fan with memorabilia from the films, and who also inducted him into the club as an honorary member.

The first ever glimpse of the new X-Men in action will be a side attraction to what is probably the biggest film of 2015.

Ashley added a photo of her and Daniel with her message. The couple both had to take unpaid leave from work under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and medical bills have taken their toll.
