Aziz Ansari Reminds Everyone to Appreciate Their Parents

Ansari’s father, Shoukath, plays the father on the show, and Tuesday night both appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “Very interesting measure of progress”.

Ansari recounts his hopes that son Aziz would become a doctor, before the younger Ansari admitted that what he really wanted to do was be a stand-up comedian, a concept Dr. Ansari was unfamiliar with. At the end of the video above, the pair makes a joke about randomly firing one of Colbert’s staffers – then, the two shared a sardonic laugh about how likely it would be that the staffer would be a white guy. “This is like an all-time high for CBS!”

After Colbert gave the camera look and shook Ansari’s hand, he said, “Hey, I’m doing my part”.

Aziz Ansari’s new widely-praised Netflix show, Master of None, has been lauded for dedicating long arcs to questions of race and identity.

Later Ansari explained the title of his show, Master of None, as fitting the show because it’s about a guy who is a developed adult but he’s still learning about life. The comedian writes that he “almost instantly collapsed into tears at the thought of how much this person cares about [him]” and “gave [him] everything”. It included the sentiment: “If your parents are good to you, too, just go do something nice for them”.

Ansari said he had been “overwhelmed” by the response to “Parents” and enriched by how it’s improved his relationship with his actual mom and dad. Because, see, the best and most talented people always succeed and get repaid for their hard work – and those people just so happen to be white guys.

He ended the post by reminding everyone to be grateful for the time they have with their parents: “These are special people in your life and I get terrified when my dad tells me about friends of his, people close to his age, that are having serious health issues, etc. Enjoy and love these people while you can”.
