GAYLORD-A Veterans Day Program will be held at the Sibley East High School in Arlington with keynote speaker Col. Brian H. Pfarr. Contest winners from area elementary schools will read their winning essays and there will be musical and choral performances.

Sgt. Roberto Ituarte Elementary, 12860 Tierra Sonora, will begin its Veterans Day remembrance at 7:30 a.m. November 10 with cookies and coffee in library.

It’s the first time they’ve done something like this at Langdon high and students and veterans alike say it’s very important.

The program included the kindergarten classes singing “God Bless America” and a number of veterans from American Legion Post 51 and parent/staff veterans introduced themselves to the students.

GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE-The Glencoe-Silver Lake High School will host a veteran’s day program at 10 in the high school gym.

“My first ceremony at Smith-Cotton moved me to tears”, said veteran Don Barbour, who has attended the event each of its five years.

Morgenthau served bravely during World War II. “I was really honored by my students and totally shocked”.

Mason County Middle School also plans a tribute by inviting them to a free lunch to veterans. How long you have been in the military is something you never forget. Guest speaker will be Michael Slusser.

At one point during the program, Wyoming Area School Board member and Wyoming VFW member Jerry Stofko presented Pikas with a plaque, thanking her for the time and effort she has put into the program for the past several years. He told them they used to make helmets out of steal, which you could shave your face with or cook food in. “It made me think of him when we sang the songs”. Wilson was also California governor and a US senator.

“I am so impressed with these young people”, he said, of the flag-waving elementary students. Flags and parade division banners will be presented by the United States Navy Sea Cadets Warrior Division, Future Business Leaders of America club members all high schools in Douglas County, and the Anchor Club from Douglas County High School. Veterans should receive the best of care and kindness.

“We’re gathered here this afternoon to honor, remember and pay respect to real American heroes – the service men and women who fought and gave up their lives for our country so that we can live in peace and prosperity”, said Alvarez.

There will be a Veterans Day parade and flyover at 1 p.m.
