Obama says nation needs to honor veterans long after Veterans Day ends

“Two of the many core values that veteran’s possess”, he added. “We are not going to let up”. “They’re ready to serve and they’ll make you proud”.

He said his message to every veteran is “that I am still not satisfied”.

As many of us sit down for dinner with our families, our military are out in the streets and in battlefields.

Governor Walker and State Veterans Affairs Secretary John Scocos honored other veterans, thanking them for their service.

Past year a CNN report showed that at least 40 veterans had died waiting for care at VA facilities in the Phoenix area; the scandal mushroomed when an internal audit found more than 120,000 veterans across the country were left waiting or never got care, even as VA employees were trained to manipulate wait time numbers internally.

“Our tributes today will also ring hollow if we don’t find our veterans jobs and opportunities when they come home”, Obama said.

The U.S. Veterans Day holiday also coincides with other World War One-era holidays around the world, including Remembrance Day in Britain and the Commonwealth nations of Australia and Canada.

Obama called on American businesses to increase their hiring of veterans leaving military service after tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.
