Our CBS affiliate in Charleston reports the suspect who died from gunshot wounds is Lamar Brown, 31 of Summerville.

Charleston County deputies say the boy, who was home alone, heard someone trying to get in his house yesterday afternoon.

According to authorities, the juvenile fired several more times as the vehicle drove away.

The boy’s mother said that the entire family was shaken up after the incident, noting that they had just moved into the house in May and that they had not seen any crime in the neighborhood before now.

Deputies say the boy then exited the home without incident.

Ira Bennett, 28, of North Charleston was also arrested and charged with first degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. The affidavit said Bennett tried to explain the bullet holes in his auto by claiming that someone had fired at the vehicle on an interstate.

Authorities searching the teen’s home said they had recovered a Colt. He then fled the scene, and the boy called his mother, who was at work, to tell her what happened.
