Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say he shot 21-year old Samantha Bunce last week while she was in her home with her infant son.

Dawkins will have his first court appearance Tuesday.

It’s unknown how many were involved in the invasion, but the shooter, Reco Latur Dawkins Jr., 23, turned himself in on Saturday morning. Police initially said there was more than one intruder, but on Sunday they didn’t say whether investigators were looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting.

Dawkins is being held in jail. “I would love to personally thank each and every one if you for your support during this time”, she wrote.

The Charlotte Observer reports 21-year-old Semantha Bunce is improving at Carolinas Medical Center days after being shot by an intruder in her northeast Charlotte home. Friends say Bunce’s military training and her maternal instincts kicked in to protect her child. She’s “not out of the woods yet”, her father-in-law says.

A friend and fellow female Soldier has established a GoFundMe account to help with expenses for the family while Bunce is hospitalized. “Just general awareness of what happened to her…she’s very grateful for all of it”, said Ritchie. “A majority of this money will be used for medical bills since that will be the biggest cost, including her ambulance ride, surgeries, various doctors that have treated her, medications, stay in ICU and the hospital as well as post-hospital follow up visits to her regular doctor”.

The judge gave Dawkins a $1 million secured bond for attempted murder. Sunday became a better day when they heard the news of the arrest.
