BWW Recap: Epic Team FLASH Failure; Enter Zoom

The CW has a new clip from Episode 2.06 of The Flash in which Barry confronts Dr. Light. However, she makes Barry happy and he wants to continue exploring their relationship. The writers are using him to say everything viewers tend to be thinking, and it’s glorious.

At CCPD, Patty is anxious to keep working on the Dr. Light case, having gone over a few potential extrapolations of her powers, including hard light and invisibility, but Joe lets her know it’s been closed, a surprise to Patty naturally. Honestly, it was surprising that Zoom didn’t unmask Barry. She offered Linda an understanding ear when Linda learned Barry’s big secret, and stood beside her risky decision to act as bait.

This led to a odd montage where Linda could not get the hang of her light-zappers. The warehouse scene where she tested her new “powers” easily ranks among the funniest sequences in the show’s history.

According to MTV, the fight was described as, ” the fully-masked speedster, groaning and hissing with his venom-dripped voice, kicked the ever-loving spit out of our hero, and then displayed his motionless body for all of Central City to see”. She had perhaps the line of the night: “I made out with The Flash”.

“[But] I hope that Patty takes it in a good way and wants to be a part of the [Flash] team, too – for my own and for Patty reasons”, she said. Likewise, Barry revealed his secret identity to Linda in order to show her how much he believed in her, but will their be consequences to face in the future because of this? It does not go well, she pretty much takes out everyone except her target. Dr. Light and THE FLASH are duking it out. The team meets up, frustrated with this hold-up in their plans. In the closing scene of the episode, CIsco and Caitlyn are relieved when Barry wakes up and they tell him how badly he was hurt. “His whole life revolves around getting what he needs and nobody and nothing is going to stop him”.

Patty is anxious that Papa Joe is leaving her out of things, so she questions him, multiple times, but gets nothing. Landing on the ground, they fistfight it out until Harrison can shoot Zoom with speed dampener, but Zoom catches it and stabs Barry, brutally injuring him.

Speaking of people hanging around after being Barry’s love interest, I was starting to wonder why Linda had been such a small part of the show this year. I don’t think I can speak to a specific episode but in general there’s a lot of great family moments for Iris.

An argument ensues, with Harry especially quick to point the finger at Cisco. Barry worries that the Reverse Flash is right about Barry never truly finding happiness. Because they didn’t have any time for that plot thread with Iris’ mom. In fact, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gustin talked about how facing down Zoom is not something Barry is quite ready to do. Zoom takes the upper hand and pummels his Earth 1 counterpart. Instead of sounding ominous, Jay sounds like a guy who’s nervous about Barry facing Zoom because he himself faced Zoom and couldn’t beat him. Barry tries to throw lightning at Zoom (like Jay taught him!) but Zoom catches it and throws it back at him.

Earth 2 is now a reality, will we see an alternate version of Iris?

In Earth Two, Wells is leading metahuman tech entrepreneur, a father and an arch nemesis to Garrick, as per the review of Den of Geek. “He is nothing”, Zoom growls to them. When he’s about to kill Barry, Cisco blasts him with the speed-dampening serum, but all it does is cause Zoom to run. However, he still manages to get away. Cisco actually sees that Zoom has his daughter being held captured and apologizes after the vision is over.

“I can’t feel my legs”.

Gather round kids, it’s wacky theory time. So who is Zoom? Someone that has intimate knowledge of Barry’s life clearly, but in terms of narrative it has to be someone that will give the audience a gut punch.

Ziah: Let’s just say it. This plan was insane. It’s such an incredibly vulnerable look at one of the most optimistic heroes on television, utterly helpless as Zoom parades him around for all his loved ones to see.

Also, Ziah, our (admittedly very obvious) thought that Zoom is Earth-2 Barry Allen seems to be not at all close to correct. Plus I think they planted this seed when they revealed that Oliver Queen’s dad became the Arrow on Earth-2 and Oliver died in his place.
