Facebook now averages over 1 billion active users every day

Revenues leapt 41 percent from a year ago to $4.5 billion.

The rise of smartphone as been a boon for Facebook with mobile advertising revenues representing 78 percent of advertising revenue for the third quarter, up from 66 percent a year ago.

Facebook reported a 11% jump in profit for the third quarter as it witnessed a spike in revenue from ad sales.

Facebook had 1.55 billion monthly active users at the end of September, up 14 percent from the same time past year.

Facebook generated $3.35 billion in Q3 mobile ad revenue, as advertisers are enticed to reach the social network’s 1.39 billion mobile monthly active users. “We are focused on innovating and investing for the long term to serve our community and connect the entire world”.

Chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said: ‘We think we have the best mobile ad product in the market.

Quarter three also saw more than 925 million use Groups, more than 15 million people online due to Internet.org and over 45 million small and medium businesses using Pages.

“The biggest surprise coming out of the quarter was the ability to accelerate advertising revenue growth”, said analyst James Cakmak of Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co. About 75% of all Facebook videos are viewed on mobile devices – making the company a potent rival to Google’s YouTube. However, the app is expected to bring in US$595 million in mobile advertising revenue this year, research firm eMarketer said. At the same time, daily active users of Facebook grew only 17% to just over a billion people.

For the third quarter, Facebook reported net income of $896 million US, or 31 cents a share, up from $806 million USA, or 30 cents per share a year earlier.

Excluding items, the Menlo Park, California-based company earned 57 cents per share, ahead of analysts’ average estimate of 52 cents per shear.
