Down Under is exactly where Cam Newton’s “footy” skills are.

Newton told the Richmond Tigers’ club website he had never watched an AFL game prior to attending one Friday night. Newton recently signed a five-year extension worth $103.8 million that locks him up through 2020.

“It’s extremely physical”, Newton said, via the AAP. “It’s a Grade A program”, Newton told Matthew Richardson on Roar Vision. “I knew nothing about footy, as you guys call it. But no matter what sport you’re playing, no matter where you’re from, there’s so many similarities are in sports as a whole”.

“His presence and the way he speaks and his demands of others is something we could take something out of”, Newman said. In the playoffs, the Panthers were able to play at home despite being under.500, and they also got to face the Arizona Cardinals who were down to their third string quarterback.

“I’m leaving with a new-found respect as well as a fan of the AFL”, Newton said.

“I haven’t felt any groin pain for a couple of weeks now”.

Even Newton’s throwing accuracy seemed to be off in the land down under. In this sport, they’re taking things away.

“Not only the sport, but the Richmond Tigers”.

Newton, who is spending part of the window between offseason workouts and training camp in Australia, spent part of Tuesday practicing with the Richmond Tigers of the Australian Football League. “I’m seeing guys get prepared and all they’re wearing, in essence, is a tank top and a pair of boxers and going out there and giving it all they have, which makes them courageous”.

Newton is expected to arrive back in the States on Thursday, where he will prepare for his foundation’s 7-on-7 championship at Nation Ford High School this weekend.
