Six championship boxing belts are missing, stolen from the worldwide Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York. The belts had been on loan from the Zale and Basilio families for several years. Zale was a middleweight champion who died in 1997.

Canastota Police Chief James Zophy said the FBI’s Antiquities Bureau was helping village police with the investigation into last week’s early morning break-in at the museum located 30 kilometres east of Syracuse in the USA state of NY.

Zophy said on Tuesday that there had been no developments in the case, calling on the public for assistance in finding the “priceless” memorabilia. “Which means they have the though process…they know where to get rid of it”.

News of the theft has reportedly left the wife of Carmen Basilio, Josephine Basilio, “heartbroken” and too distraught to comment. “That’s the mother of all hall of fames for boxing”.
