That’s not the case anymore. Especially not in ideal conditions at the Sanderson Farms Championship. None were better than the 30-year-old Castro. “It still stings. A couple of holes later I had a great wedge number, it came out ideal and just went in”, he told Golf Channel.
However, the placid conditions on Thursday are expected to change in the coming days since rain is predicted for each of the remaining three rounds there.
Of the 122 finishers, 103 posted scores of par or lower. Nine players were still on the course when the round was halted due to darkness.
Also on 11-under were Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas, who was five-under for the day through 16 holes, and American D.J. Trahan, six-under through 16. Adam Hadwin and Brian Davis shot 65.
DJ Trahan and Michael Thompson both lurk one shot off the lead, with Tyler Aldridge one of seven players a further stroke back after playing his opening 15 holes in five under.
Two more birdies on the back nine completed a blemish free round which leaves him perfectly poised as he chases the first win of his PGA Tour career.
“It’s just so soft out there”, Castro said.
Molder reached seven-under with his birdie at the 10th but managed just two more birdies the rest of the way. “I was just cruising along, trying to just stay in the moment, hit the shot and stay patient”.
Cook will tee off at 7:53 am on the first hole on Friday and is in a solid position to make the weekend field. If he does, he’ll become the fifth-straight first-time victor of the season.
It worked for at least one day.

He said: “To knock it in the middle felt good, to at least finish that way”.
