Putin puffery in Republican’s latest debate

Moderators Neil Cavuto, left, Maria Bartiromo and Gerard Baker arrive on stage before the Republican presidential debate at the Milwaukee Theatre, Tuesday, November 10, 2015, in Milwaukee. When debating the Trans-Pacific Partnership, he shifted immediately toward China, only to be called out by Rand Paul who made the point that China isn’t party to the TPP. More than half (52%) know someone who is an illegal immigrant, which may color their views on immigration: Hispanics are as likely to think that illegal immigrants commit fewer violent crimes as to say they commit more than others do. That’s something for which the viewers were no doubt grateful. “Properly done. Believe me”, said he.

“Marco, how is it conservative to add a trillion-dollar expenditure to the federal government that you’re not paying for?” What, they don’t think we were listening the first time it ran? But, stunningly, the other candidates didn’t challenge Dr. Carson over the questions either. Immigration once again was the liveliest issue.

When pressed on how he could carry out the deportation of millions, Trump said “you’re going to have a deportation force, and you’re going to do it humanely”. However, unless a “comprehensive immigration plan” is implemented, such a program would have “unintended consequences”, such as “finishing the border fence, drastically increasing the number of ICE and Border Patrol officers, building additional detention facilities, and addressing the years-long immigration court backlog”.

His hardline proposal was attacked as impractical and divisive by John Kasich and Jeb Bush, who are also running for the Republican presidential nomination.

If the Google/WSJ poll is accurate, then Jeb Bush is the big loser of last night’s debate.

Trump didn’t back down an inch.

Trump touted President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s efforts in the 1950s as proof such a mass deportation can be done.

Meanwhile, in The Washington Times’ poll, Paul took the top spot with 44 percent, Trump trailed with 39 percent, Cruz with 16 percent and Rubio with 10 percent. “We have no choice”.

Trump and Ben Carson, the two front-runners, didn’t do anything to hurt their cause. Trump wasn’t as boisterous or belligerent as he’s been the past, which probably disappointed as many of his supporters as it pleased. And even when given the opportunity by the moderators to jump into a discussion about the economy, he failed to shut down an interruption by John Kasich.

During debates, sometimes what the candidates say do not match up with the facts.

But he warned against turning residents out of their homes and sending them back across borders, saying it “sends a powerful signal” to voters and to Democratic White House hopefuls like Hillary Clinton.

“I have no problem, being vetted”, said Dr. Ben Carson when asked about allegations his autobiography contained false statements.

As reported by Corrine Cathcart of ABC News, Bush appeared to brush off Rubio’s attempt to speak with him during a commercial break at the debate Tuesday night.

Kasich wasn’t inspiring, either.

Carson has faced a rough week of scrutiny about whether he embellished key aspects of his biography, while Rubio, 44, is under pressure to show he can fight off recent criticism of his inexperience as he tries to unseat fellow Floridian Bush as a favorite of the party’s mainstream.
