Disney Infinity Arrives On Apple TV With Star Wars Bundle And Controller

Walt Disney (DIS -0.8%) launched Disney Infinity 3.0 for the Apple TV today, and unlike many games for the box, it comes with a chunky controller usually seen with higher-end gaming consoles.

Most all games on Apple TV are controlled by the device’s slender remote.

Apple Stores should be stocking the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition Starter Pack for the Apple TV now, and it’s also available from the Apple Online Store.

All the figures and Power Discs from the 1.0 and 2.0 versions of the game are compatible with the new Apple TV.

Most notably, the Starter Pack also features a SteelSeries Nimbus wireless controller, so if you don’t have a controller yet to use with your Apple TV, this is an enticing way to pick one up. This also allows the players to carry their progress with them, regardless of what platform they are playing on.

While Disney doesn’t talk about the number of gamers on Disney Infinity’s platform, Patton could point to the sizable amount of content those gamers have created. In other words, it’s not just for kids. Disney Infinity was limited to console-only platforms from Xbox, Nintendo, and Playstation, but the franchise expanded to PC, Android, and iOS devices in previous months.

Concerning the handy inclusion of SteelSeries’ Nimbus controller in the pack, Craig Olson, President of SteelSeries Mobile, said: “We’ve engineered the Nimbus Wireless Controller especially for Apple TV gameplay experiences, and it was only fitting to include it in the Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack for players to enjoy the game the way it was meant to be played”. At the close of Q4, Interactive revenues decreased by $15 million to $347 million, while operating income increased $13 million to $31 million.
