Acadiana Community Celebrates Veterans Day

There were many veterans groups represented, including the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and the Military Officers of America, among others. Retired Vietnam veteran Eddie Kennison talked about the difficulties he faced.

And through the pageantry of the day, a young boy broke through the crowd, reached up to Brockman and handed him a note, a simple thank you doodled with an American Flag.

Not only has the attitude changed, but Governor Branstad says the Home Base Iowa initiative has transformed the state into a haven for veterans. Veterans of four of the five branches of the USA military and of wars from World War II to the War on Terror were in attendance.

Vietnam veterans wearing black motorcycle jackets with POW/MIA patches or dress military uniforms embraced one another and shared memories with their comrades in arms.

The annual Veterans Day ceremony in Owego Wednesday honored all veterans and active duty service members.
