Syrian regime troops backed by Lebanon’s Hezbollah on Thursday took control of the key rebel-held town of Al-Hader, south of Aleppo city, a military source told AFP. Hundreds of Hezbollah fighters have died in Syria, including at least one senior officer.

There was no news of any casualties, nor any confirmation of what the Israeli planes may have been targeting, though a few rebel factions speculated that they were targeting a shipment of weapons to Hezbollah.

Israeli warplanes have struck targets near the global airport in the Syrian capital, Damascus, Syrian media says.

The revised valuation on rockets suggests Hezbollah is ramping up efforts to acquire weapons whose objective is to attack Israel, despite its deep involvement in the Syrian civil war. Israeli officials consider the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah a redline and has carried out a number of attacks on weapons convoys in Syria en route to the group in Lebanon. Blasts were also reportedly heard.

No major Arab-language media outlets reported the alleged strikes.

The Israeli military declined to comment on the reports.

Israel has not confirmed either report. Notably, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Washington, D.C., where he was having a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

The Al-Baath editorial also said prospects of progress in the second round of talks on Syria’s crisis, due this weekend in Vienna, are dim because of the previous round’s failure to clearly define which groups constitute the moderate opposition.

The forces liberated the villages of Musharfah Al-Murayj and Tal Al-Arba’een in Aleppo from the control of the Takfiri terrorists on Thursday, and killed tens of militants.

While the increased estimate of Hezbollah owned missiles raises concerns, officials believe that Hezbollah is not interested in engaging with Israel at the current time.
