Median annual salary for welders: $37420; for philosophy

“I see her as a neoconservative”, Paul told CNN’s Jake Tapper of Clinton. Senator, welcome back to the program.

The statements, covering January 2005-October 2006, show Rubio spent nearly $65,000 with the card, which was supposed to be used for party-related business. Of course, it doesn’t count the scores of people who spend years studying for a job they never actually get.

TERKEL: Uh, I think Ted Cruz. And if we define a philosopher as someone who simply their bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, things change as well: common careers include paralegal, network engineer, IT manager, and even executive director. They would have to meet the criteria of the merit-based system. They would have to wait in line behind everyone who’s applied before them. Let’s just choose the person with the longest resume. “They both wanted a no-fly zone”.

The tricky part of politics is that pretty much any comment can be interpreted any way anyone wants to interpret it. On the surface, Rubio was flat-out incorrect that welders earn a better salary than “philosophers”.

On top of that, many trade jobs are now being taken by hard-working Hispanic immigrants. All of my neighbors are immigrants.

RUBIO:…So it’s a complex issue.

“You said we need welders, that welders get paid more than philosophers”. We favor legal immigration and there’s – but there’s got to be a process by which people come here.

The Republican “establishment” – the party leaders, politicians, and big donors – is still sorting through its feelings about former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Rubio’s former mentor and friend. But Mr. Rubio didn’t miss a beat. The people decide that the way they’re going to move forward is by tearing you down. In general, we aren’t adequately passing down the best of “the positive acquisitions of the past”, and we aren’t preparing students to “use this capital for the common good”. The campaign said he made the trip for political business and then extended it to visit family in Nevada.

“If we separate ourselves from the current universe that is the Republican Party, Rubio is at the right end of the spectrum”, said Norm Ornstein, a congressional scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.

INSKEEP: You were questioned in the last debate about your personal finances.

Rubio hasn’t reached celebrity status, and is still in single digits in polls of Republican voters. A welder needs a large infrastructure of metal and heat to do her job, while philosophers are cheap even by academic standards. And I’m just curious, what did you learn from that experience?

RUBIO: Well, it wasn’t about managing; it’s the reality. There’s $1,064 at a Tallahassee Best Buy in March 2005 and $4,390.04 at a Miami CompUSA in August 2006. And millions of people were impacted around the country. I know this for a fact. We were having children. “I’m not going to release them”.

The first-term Florida senator, who won praise for his performance in the debate in Milwaukee the night before, covered a range of topics in front of a crowd his campaign estimated at 400.

PETER ALEXANDER: Hey, Tamron, good morning to you. “I went through my American Express, or my staff did”.

Rubio then painted a bleak picture of life today: hard-working Americans “living paycheck to paycheck”, the nation facing “humiliation” overseas.

“Right now, there are millions of jobs across America that are unfilled because workers don’t have the right skills to fill them”. And that’s something I feel fully prepared for.

HALL: Alright, Peter. Thank you very much.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) made it clear during Tuesday’s GOP debate that he won’t be easily rolled by the Philosopher’s Lobby, calling for “more welders and less philosophers” in the work force.
