Alum Alexa PenaVega Admits to Have Had Suffered from Bulimia During Her
“I feel like this show allowed me to gain that confidence, to just talk about it and maybe help other people who are going through that and really just put it all to rest”.

“I had an eating disorder”, said PenaVega during rehearsals with Ballas. Well, PenaVega used that strength to her advantage when she made the decision to open up about a very intimate detail of her life. “But I was saying to her, she was really wonderful last night and really embodied the movement”.
That’s right, the elimination came down to Alexa PenaVega and her husband Carlos PenaVega.
“I wish I’d had somebody who could have told me, ‘It’s scary.’ You struggle giving it up”.
Though Alexa has moved past that time in her life, insecurities remain. The harsh truth about bulimia is that on a few level, it’s satisfying, PenaVega said. The fact that “in a unusual way, you enjoy it” was one barrier Alexa said she faced in trying to overcome the eating disorder. Getting over the compulsion is more hard than it sounds. After the first safe contestants were announced, which include Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough, Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess, Alex Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold, and Tamar Braxton and Val Chmerkovskiy, it only meant that one of the PenaVegas was about to go home.
Alexa PeneVega might have exited from “Dancing With The Stars” but she left a lasting impression when she left the dance floor.
According to Cosmo, Mark – dressed all in black – represented bulimia and Alexa played herself, fighting against it. When it was over, the judges sprung to their feet and praised PenaVega for the raw, emotional performance.
After DWTS season 21’s most recent episode aired on Monday (Nov. 9), PenaVega opened up about her past struggle with bulimia, admitting a childhood incident involving a movie producer telling her she was too fat ignited the eating disorder.

“That was more than dance, that was healing”, said judge Carrie Ann Inanba. “It had all the emotional turmoil of a dark psycho drama – images out of “American Horror Story”!”. Alexa. You are my rock. “It was about a bigger message… to help people and to inspire”. Tonight was biggest than dancing on a television show, tonight was about love, life, and helping people who are struggling and in need, to me that’s bigger than any mirror ball or championship.
