Thursday Entertainment Buzz: ‘Star Trek: The Musical’?, ‘Star Wars’ photos, more

“I’m attempting to sell a 50th anniversary show, but so far I’ve had very little luck”, the newspaper quoted him as saying.

William Shatner wants to organize a musical to celebrate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary next year.

“Maybe because Paramount’s going to do their own – but I don’t know how they can do their own without me”. The actor noted that while at a few point a “big company” suggested a musical or variety show to mark the occasion, those plans have since stalled.

While allowing that Paramount might have their own plans in the works, James Tiberius Kirk made clear he had never been contacted. Shatner played Captain Kirk in the original series, but has not appeared in any of the franchise’s newer instalments. But he does note it was the only one that had any shot of making it so far, which kind of begs the question: if this is what got traction… what didn’t?

‘I haven’t watched myself on Star Trek, except when forced to because I’m directing something, ‘ he admitted. Additionally, the third film in the rebooted Star Trek film series entitled Star Trek Beyond will be hitting theaters on July 8, 2016. He’s renowned for his … unusual … singing style.

It was on a double date with Sir Patrick and his wife that William’s then girlfriend – now his wife – revealed she didn’t watch Star Trek either.

“I haven’t had this much fun since the Wrath of Khan”, the kids sing while doing a chorus line.
